The Word Saves and Delivers a Friend

Kendall Remmick - 09/24/2013

I was at home getting the house ready for another house showing and I heard a knock on the door. I ran upstairs and opened the door to see an old school buddy, Greg, I'm still friends with. He was standing there with a duffle bag, drunk, and smelling like cigarettes and alcohol. He had ridden the bus for 150 miles and showed up unannounced. I asked him why he was here and he said he had nowhere else to go and needed a place for a couple of days.

He came to Christ a few years earlier and hoped he would beat his addictions, and I told him that he needed to stay in the Word everyday, stop watching TV and repent of his old ways, but he never did any of those things. He was familiar with the Unleavened Bread Bible Studies and really liked them, and I could see a change in him when he'd watch them. After a couple of days, he was sobered up and feeling good, and he asked if he could start listening to more of David's Bible studies. So I set him up with a computer I had and put the study Sin and Judgment on. After every segment, he would come and tell me how great it was and then go outside and smoke a few cigarettes.

The next one he listened to was How Shall We Die? At one point, when he went outside to smoke, he was filled with the Spirit of Christ and was brought to tears and was crying. He came in and told me what had happened to him and I told him, "Now you know He's real and now you understand why you have to stay in the Word everyday, if you want victory over your sin life". Later that day, he got a phone call from a company looking for him to go to work. He had worked for them when he was in rehab for two years and did a great job for them. They found him a free place to stay and he started work the following Monday.

Two days earlier, he was at one of his lowest points and ready to go back to rehab, but just a little time in the Word and the Lord turned his life around. I hope he learned to stay in a relationship with Christ this time. I think the Lord let things get bad and made a big impression on him within a short time of getting back in the Word, just to make that point to him.
